Fitness Trainer Does 1,000 Pull-Ups for Poor Children

A THOUSAND PULL-UPS. Matt Schechner hangs on a pull-up bar displaying form and strength, but most of all to raise awareness about the need to help children in poor countries have a better life.
PHOENIX—Pull-ups and poverty? This strange, yet winning combination was created by fitness expert Matt Schechner to raise awareness and money to meet education, nutrition and health needs for impoverished children worldwide. Schechner, who organizes public events where he does 1,000 pull-ups to raise money, recently worked with Food for the Hungry to sponsor several children.

As the founder of nonprofit of For the World Fitness, he said his goal is to “challenge people to use their gifts for God’s glory.” God has given Schechner a passion for raising awareness about world poverty, living a healthy lifestyle, and helping others achieve their fitness goals.
